Programs

Ivanhoe Positive Alternatives project provides a variety of structured programs, monthly activities and annual events that are designed to promote positive alternatives to delinquency, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, violence and other criminal activities for youth and families in the Ivanhoe neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods.

Sports Programs

Ivanhoe Knights Tackle Football Team
is participating in the MO-KAN Sports Association and comes equipped with its own cheerleading squad.

  • Meeting Dates: 5:30 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday at Wendell Phillips School

Ivanhoe Knights Flag Football Team
is an 8 game season for 11 and 12 year olds. Plans are underway to participate in the YMCA sports league.

Ivanhoe Knights Cheerleading Squad

Baseball
A co-ed program for 4-9 year olds offered through a partnership with Mountaintop Inc., a ministry of Macedonia Baptist Church, for the development of athletic, social, and life skills for children.

  • Practices ran from May to July. Games were played at Ivanhoe Park

Ivanhoe Heat Basketball Team
played in two separated age divisions, 10 and under and 16 and under; the team participated in the Police Athletic League.

  • Head Coaches: 10 and Under – Darcel Roebuck and Maurice Harvey

Volleyball
Ivanhoe conducted a clinic to teach the basics of passing, hitting, setting, blocking and serving. Girls ages 11-15

  • Clinic was held two times each week from June 3rd to July 31s

Scouting Program

Scouting focuses on preparing girls and boys to be good, productive citizens and make the world a better place. Children and youth are exposed to new adventures, participate in community service projects and build courage, confidence and character.

Music Program

Singing is fun for everyone! There are benefits that help children develop physically, spiritually, socially and intellectually.

  • Ivanhoe Youth Choir meets weekly at Christ Temple Church of God in Christ for a capella rehearsals.

Restorative Justice Program

Ivanhoe Council of Elders was originally formed to address the disparate numbers of African American youth routinely detained in the Jackson County Family Court. Overtime, the program expanded to include youth who were preparing to be released from court appointed residential facilities to return to their neighborhood homes.

Recreational Activities – “Just for Fun” activities are provided once a month for children and youth ages 5 -18. Children have fun with activities such as making crafts, baking, watching movies, video games, concerts, field trips, dodge ball and more! These fun activities are overseen by committed parents and adult volunteers.

These special events give participants a chance to connect to the broader community in terms of giving back or just having fun.
